Changing Premedical Requirements

JAMA. 2007;297(1):37-39. doi:10.1001/jama.297.1.38-a

To the Editor: The American College of Physicians (ACP) has recently developed and advocated for proposals for redesign of medical education for future internists.1 In addition, it has been working with other internal medicine stakeholder organizations to move the reform proposals toward implementation.2 We were therefore pleased to see the Commentary by Dr Emanuel3 on changing premed requirements and the medical curriculum. His proposed changes are aligned with the ACP's recent position paper on redesigning training for internal medicine1 and with other ACP position statements that include recommendations about premedical education.
