VA Mental Health Funding

JAMA. 2007;297(2):146. doi:10.1001/jama.297.2.146-d

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has spent only $200 million of the $300 million allocated in its fiscal year 2005-2006 budget for mental health programs, according to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report released November 21.

The GAO also said that the VA has inadequately tracked the spending of these mental health dollars. The report (http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d0766.pdf) was conducted at the request of Democrats from the House committee on Veterans' Affairs.
