“He’s so arrogant. I felt worse after I saw him.”
“He lacks compassion. All he cares about is the money.”
“I was going to complain to the medical board, but I decided it wasn’t worth my time.”
My heart sank as I read the words. They stirred up distant memories of past rejections and humiliations. But unlike those of long ago, these comments had not been written on scraps of paper in the back of a grade school classroom or scribbled on a bathroom wall. They were out in cyberspace, available for anyone with eyes in their head and a computer screen to see. That was how I found them, on an impromptu egosurf during my lunch hour. All those empty stars beside my name on one of the doctor-rating websites felt like a punch to the gut.
