Letters Section Editor: Robert M. Golub, MD, Senior Editor.
To the Editor: The Clinical Crossroads on treatment-resistant depression by Dr Salzman1 describes a 60-year-old woman with this diagnosis. The initial presentation noted that Ms A has refused further psychotherapy and consultation “and is applying for long-term disability.” However, there is no further discussion of this issue.
I would be interested in Salzman's opinion about the interaction between seeking disability and this patient's diagnosis. I would also like to know his advice for a physician who is requested to supply information pertaining to the patient's ability to work and how that might affect this patient's care.
