My love for you, like this red hair,
is cast-off from catastrophes
and victories of that ancient twist of stair,
the double helix that gives wing to the bee, and to me

How vigilant the cat to clean her fur,
how quaint the whispering of the heart’s murmur,
how sure the shape of the calyx of the larkspur.
