To the Editor Dr Maron and colleagues1 provided their perspective on cardiovascular screening in young athletes and suggested more profitable screening programs than those advocated to prevent sudden cardiac death. We were surprised, however, that consideration was only given to cost-efficacy, whereas it is recognized that several cultural and social reasons justify the implementation of a cardiac screening program in athletes.
