An Affordable Care Act at Year 5Key Issues for Improvement

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), signed into law in March 2010, has been in place for nearly half a decade and by many measures is succeeding. The number of uninsured persons in the United States is at its lowest level in years,1 access to health care is improving,1 health care cost inflation is at record low levels,2 and the burden of uncompensated care provided by hospitals and other health care entities is declining.3
