Generic Abilify Gets FDA Approval

JAMA. 2015;313(21):2115. doi:10.1001/jama.2015.5641

Three companies can now market generic versions of Abilify, the brand name for aripiprazole, in multiple strengths and dosage forms.

Generic aripiprazole is an atypical antipsychotic drug approved to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

“Health care professionals and consumers can be assured that FDA-approved generic drugs have met the same rigorous standards as the brand-name drug,” John Peters, MD, acting director of the FDA’s Office of Generic Drugs, said in a statement.
