This book has been arranged and compiled from materials that the author accumulated while serving as chief of social service in the Johns Hopkins Hospital. It is virtually a printed reproduction of policies and instructions first issued in loose leaf form for the direction of the workers in her department, and more particularly for the guidance of new workers. It contains such rules and policies as might be evolved out of the experience of any social service department. The book will be of greatest value to the heads of social service departments by affording them the opportunity of comparing their problems and methods with those that have been worked out in the experience of social service workers at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and recorded by Miss Brogden in her book.
