Bill Seeks to Exempt Tribes From Large-Employer Mandate

JAMA. 2015;314(10):983. doi:10.1001/jama.2015.10820

Sen Steve Daines (R, Mont) and Rep Ryan Zinke (R, Mont) have introduced legislation, the Tribal Employment and Jobs Protection Act, that would exempt Native American tribes and tribal employers from the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA’s) large-employer mandate (http://1.usa.gov/1W1OsJB). The mandate requires businesses with more than 50 employees who work at least 30 hours a week to provide minimal essential coverage (MEC) health insurance to those employees or face paying potential penalties.
