Christin Green, MD, knew she wanted to go into primary care before she even entered medical school. But after accumulating $270 000 in medical school loans, she considered higher-paying specialties such as anesthesiology, dermatology, and radiology. Because of a National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program called Students to Service (S2S)—launched with funding from the Affordable Care Act—Green fulfilled her dream of becoming a family medicine physician and paid off $120 000 of her medical school loans.
