This volume, first published in 1927, was three times reprinted before the present edition, entirely reset, reprinted and recopy-righted, was made available. It constitutes one of the most useful and authoritative treatises in its field. Since the publication of the previous edition, some of the original contributors have died and the chapters with which they were concerned have been reedited. New chapters have been added on tularemia and snake venom poisoning, and extensive changes have been made in some of the previous chapters, particularly those dealing with arthritis and hypertension. As a result of his experience, the editor feels that it is doubtful whether any author of the future will have the temerity to write a complete textbook on medicine without considerable collaboration. The work constitutes one of the best references in the field of internal medicine that are available.
