The pigments must have come from somewhere,
but you don’t remember where.
Blue from the indigo plant perhaps,
yellow from a spice grown in Egypt.
I hear they make a special green
by hanging copper strips over fermented grape skins,
or is that another lie?
You paint what you cannot see.
A wing in the upper left-hand corner,
brush strokes like animal tracks.
