The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) has awarded $5 million to 24 separate research projects studying nonantibiotic therapies for treating bacterial infections (http://1.usa.gov/1mZXHx5). The research awards, given to 18 universities and 3 companies, were established in response to the President’s National Action Plan for Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria, issued in March 2015 (http://1.usa.gov/1yiurjQ).
