Funding the Cancer Moonshot

JAMA. 2016;315(11):1101. doi:10.1001/jama.2016.2072

Included in the FDA’s $5.1 billion budget request for fiscal year (FY) 2017 is $75 million to support the development of a virtual Oncology Center of Excellence (http://1.usa.gov/1QpFm3k).

The center of excellence is part of the National Cancer Moonshot initiative that President Obama announced in January during his State of the Union address. The president’s proposed FY 2017 budget includes $1 billion for the initiative, which is aimed at eliminating cancer (http://1.usa.gov/1V54Fvw).
