ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATIONS ASKED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF HOSPITALS  On November 28 Representative Lanham of Texas, author of the original measure passed by Congress in June 1941 authorizing the expenditure of $150,000,000 for community facilities in defense area communities, introduced a bill to increase this amount by another $150,000,000. Washington reporters say that the bill will receive speedy passage by Congress. On December 1 there were on file with the Federal Works Agency in Washington over three thousand applications for federal funds, totaling nearly $800,000,000, for the construction of schools, sewerage systems, hospitals and other community facilities authorized under the Lanham act. Over five hundred of these applications were for hospitals, health clinics and health centers, calling for the expenditure of $140,000,000 in federal funds, which if approved would have left only $10,000,000 for the numerous other community facilities provided for under the act.
