Abstract

This is a good book written by a man who is professor of hygiene at the University of Bogota and president of the Red Cross of Colombia. Dr. Bejarano is concerned over the lack of good judgment in the choice of foods which he finds among so many of the people of Colombia. They take to much sugar and starchy food and do not get enough protein and fat. They take little milk and eggs, and they do not get enough fruit and vegetables. Many persons imbibe altogether too much of the locally made alcoholic drinks, and they fail to get enough calories in the diet. In most places the water supplies are poorly guarded from contamination with fecal material. Dr. Bejarano has written a book which will give Spanish speaking physicians and intelligent laymen a good idea of the recent advances in the science of alimentation and nutrition. He
