To Emptiness

JAMA. 2016;316(2):229. doi:10.1001/jama.2016.1730

   This blank page
 is my winding sheet,
   my living shroud
 in the dark sepulcher.
     Let me drink
   a last coffee, pull
one last weed in the yard,
   do one last crossword,
   read one last book,
then face the empty page,
substance of nothingness,
  —no final words—
   embrace it, love it
to the last inch, lie down
   in its immaculate arms,
    fold it around me,
  and turn, turn, turn.
