The Dance

Her body lies stiff on the table,
legs extended, feet still dressed in boots.
I lift my instrument to my ears.
Skin slides over metal, mine,
then metal over skin, hers.

Take a deep breath for me:
upper lobe, left side,
upper lobe, right side,
middle lobe, same side.
Just like I learned.
