To the Editor In their Research Letter, Dr Metersky and colleagues1 concluded that there was a discordance between trends in ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) rates reported by the Medicare Patient Safety Monitoring System (MPSMS) and the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). Data from the MPSMS support the conclusion that VAP rates were stable from 2005 to 2013, which contrasts with the declining trends observed by the NHSN.
