Abstract

Vital Statistics for 1928  The minister of hygiene has just published the vital statistics for France for the year 1928. The excess of births over deaths was 70,205, being 7,333 for the first quarter, 22,001 for the second, 28,028 for the third, and 12,443 for the fourth. The improvement over the previous year, in which an excess of births over deaths of 65,042 was recorded, was slight. The improvement was due to a small increase of the births and a slight diminution of deaths. The adjoining table gives a comparison of the results of 1928 with those of the previous years back to 1920 and also of 1913, the last normal year before the war. The population of each year is evaluated as of June 30, account being taken of the excess of births over deaths and the excess of immigration.As compared with 1927, one notes, in 1928, an
