This English translation of one of the most authoritative works available in Germany is made from the third German edition, published in 1927. During the course of preparation, revisions and additions were supplied by the authors, so that this new edition may be considered complete and down to date. The book is divided into sections for which the various authors are responsible. The general theory of variation and heredity is discussed by Dr. Baur; racial differences in mankind are discussed by Fischer; the last three sections of the book, developed by Lenz, deal with morbific factors in heredity, methods for the study of human heredity, and the inheritance of intellectual gifts.
