With the exception of the textbooks by Heyman, Katz-Blumenfeld and Denker-Kahler, the present volume is the first to deal exclusively and extensively with the diseases of the pharynx. The book embraces a wide variety of topics many of which are usually given scant attention in the average textbook. Here, however, the laryngologist will find them thoroughly and adequately treated in a fashion that well reflects the best of recent literature. It is gratifying to find such subjects as parapharyngeal infections, the prophylaxis and treatment of hemorrhage, paresthesias of the pharynx, sepsis of tonsillar origin, malignant tumors and focal infection given the space they merit. Our knowledge of these subjects has in recent years been widened through many valuable contributions to the literature, with which most laryngologists are familiar.
