Abstract

This volume comes to the medical profession and to the public, sponsored by eminent writers and physicians. Dr. Tobey has carefully studied the history of cancer and has analyzed our present knowledge. He lists famous persons who have had cancer, describes the types and locations of cancers in the body, and discusses methods of diagnosis and the use of surgery. He presents a list of reliable cancer hospitals and considers the use of roentgen rays and of radium in treatment. Another chapter is devoted to our present knowledge of heredity in cancer and to present types of cancer research. There are also discussions of the nature and course of the disease, of the proper care of the patient, of fraudulent remedies, and of various steps that need to be taken for applying our present knowledge to the control of this disease.
