Director of Cancer Research Appointed  Carl Voegtlin, Ph.D., chief of the division of pharmacology in the National Institute of Health, has been appointed director of cancer research under the new program recently launched by the U. S. Public Health Service. Dr. Voegtlin has for several years been conducting research in cancer at the institute. A native of Basle, Switzerland, Dr. Voegtlin received the degree of doctor of philosophy from the University of Freiburg in 1902. Early in his career he taught chemistry at the University of Wisconsin and pharmacology and medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He joined the staff of the Hygienic Institute, now called the National Institute of Health, U. S. Public Health Service, Washington, D. C., in 1913.
