Castellani's book, which was first published in 1930, now appears with, as the author states, "some minor alterations and additions." In view of the fact that Castellani has been inspector general of the Italian military and civil medical services during the Ethiopian war—in association with which there has followed his elevation as count of Kisymaio—he has undoubtedly been very busy, certainly too busy to rewrite the book, which, rather sketchy and inadequate in the first place, is still sketchy and inadequate and reflects a ten year lag. One of the real difficulties with books on climate of the type of Castellani's is the limitation of the discussion of climate to the effects of the tropical climate on northern man.
