Abstract

This book takes up problems of work output in industry as related to the functions of the human body. This branch of physiology is an essential part of the basis for occupational hygiene. An introductory chapter classifies types of work according to the relative importance of the physical and the psychological elements involved. Subsequent chapters deal with muscular work, conditions for muscular efficiency (problems of posture and fatigue), energetics (metabolism), the rational planning of machinery and optimum working conditions, environmental factors including radiation and ventilation, composition and pressure of the air, problems relating to the ear
