This is an anniversary number of the Journal of the Elisha Mitchell Scientific Society and consists of thirty-one more or less unrelated sections dealing with the researches of the various departments of science of the University of North Carolina. All the authors are or recently have been on the staff of that school, The accent is, of course, on local researches, but in the discussion of the value and place of the work each field may be more or less covered.
