This is the second volume in the medical series of the Australian history of World War II. It is, assumedly, a part of the official Australian history of the war, although no direct statement to that effect has been noted either in the book or on the jacket. Walker, who relinquished his private practice and professional appointments to undertake the editorship, gives credit to a number of officers and others who assisted him. He submitted the chapters to critics fitted by personal experience and knowledge to check the accuracy and fairness of the story. In this laborious task his medical colleagues gave him valuable material and encouragement. Among those to whom he was particularly indebted was Dr. Mervyn Archdall, editor of the Medical Journal
