Abstract

REPORT OF THE SECRETARY  To the Members of the House of Delegates of the American Medical Association:The following report of the Secretary is respectfully submitted:

Membership  Each year brings a steady growth in the number of members of the American Medical Association. On April 1, 1946 the membership roster contained 126,835 names. During the ensuing twelve months the names of 5,389 new members were added, so that on April 1, 1947 the number of members was 132,224, the largest ever recorded. It is interesting to note in this centennial year of the Association's existence that the "Catalogue of Permanent Members" recorded in 1847 contained the names of 426 physicians!

Fellowship  The Fellowship roster on April 1, 1947 contained 72,888 names, as compared with 68,366 on the corresponding date in the preceding year. The reduction which occurred during the war years has been largely restored. From April 1, 1946 to
