This volume is one of thirteen comprising the Practical Medicine Series of Year Books. The period covered in this volume is from August 1945 to June 1946. The editors are five professors of medicine and one professor of cardiology in various universities in this country. An advantage of a series of this kind is that the books are brought up to date annually and they can therefore be kept at convenient size. This volume has five parts, on infectious diseases, diseases of the chest, diseases of the blood and blood forming organs, diseases of the heart and blood vessels, and diseases of the digestive system and metabolism. At the beginning of the chapters on diseases of the heart and blood vessels a special tribute is paid to the late Sir Thomas Lewis, who for many years was the dean of cardiology.
