This is a pamphlet setting forth the pharmacodynamic properties of Trombeta rôxa (Datura fastuosa), with several chapters on its therapeutic properties, chemical composition and the results of experiments in animals and use of the drug as a collyrium in human beings. The plant is used in Brazil as a drug with anesthetic, antineuralgic and sedative effects, and in the treatment of rheumatism, asthma, spasms and convulsions. Leaves and flowers are rich in alkaloids of the belladonna and atropine type and are supposed to possess mydriatic power.
