This monograph is a revision and enlargement of Dr. Samuels' previous work, "The Diagnosis and Treatment of Diseases of the Peripheral Arteries," which was intended to be an outline of fundamental principles. The current volume is based on the personal experience of the author with some thousands of cases observed over a period of 25 years. It is admittedly written largely from a single viewpoint and includes both theoretical and practical considerations which do not necessarily represent the opinions of other workers in the field of the peripheral circulation.
The emphasis of the volume is on the various manifestations of the syndrome of arterial insufficiency and on its end result, gangrene of the extremities. The amount of space devoted to the various subjects within the compass of the title is realistically divided according to the frequency with which these conditions are encountered in practice.
