Abstract

What are the common aims between business and medicine? As I see it, there are two very fundamental common aims between business and medicine. One is the preservation of the private enterprise system in the United States of America; second, it is to provide for the American people the best medical care that money will buy, and to do it within the formula of the private enterprise system. We have been able to do that up to now; we can continue to do that in the future years if we work together.

No one ever got anywhere at the start of a controversy over fundamentals if they started by compromising. You compromise when you have to; not before. When you talk about the system of private enterprise in the United States of America, you must remember that it is deep in the roots of the American people.
