The aim of the author as stated in the preface is to make this "an every day hand-book rather than a complete reference work" While he succeeds in accomplishing this purpose there is probably little need for such an elementary book in the library of the general practitioner. Any standard textbook of general medicine will supply all that is found in this book plus fairly complete descriptions of the other common diseases encountered in medicine The chapters on psychosomatic problems are well written and will be of value to the practitioner.
