Abstract

To the Editor:—  Dr. Benjamin S. Barringer in the discussion of his paper, "Twenty-Five Years of Radon Treatment of Cancer of the Bladder" in The Journal (135:616-618 [Nov. 8] 1947), questioned many features of an article of mine, "A Comparison of Radiation and Surgery for Cancer of the Bladder," (J. A. M. A. 134:501-507 [June 7] 1947. He concluded, "I doubt the accuracy of his published results."Dr. Barringer may interpret the figures as he sees fit, but the accuracy of them has been substantiated by an independent observer. This substantiating study has been recently published as a part of an editorial comment in the abstract section of the new journal Cancer.Radiation of vesical cancer is a widely accepted method of therapy, so that the accuracy of published results obtained in 300 consecutive cases which were treated during a time of great enthusiasm should be important to
