Abstract

In The Journal, July 20, page 259, there appeared an abstract entitled Morphine Derivative in Massive Doses. The drug in question, known as Eupaverine, is 1-(3,4-methyl-enedioxybenzyl)-3-methyl-6,7-methylenedioxyisoquinoline and should be properly classified in the isoquinoline group of drugs obtainable from opium. The actions of members of this group of compounds differ in many respects from the phenanthrene group of drugs also obtainable from opium. It is the latter group which contains morphine and its derivatives.
