The tremendous strides made in recent years in the development of scientific medicine are reflected in this book. It is apparent that the rapid progress has depended to a great extent on the more complex biochemical studies and that a sound knowledge of this phase of medicine is essential for further elucidation of disease and its treatment.

This book is apparently not intended to be a textbook of clinical biochemistry but rather a critical review of the investigational work in this field. Much of the investigational work presented in this volume is still controversial and the authors have wisely refrained from making their statements dogmatic and conclusive although it is possible that some readers would desire more definite statements.
