This small volume, simply and interestingly written, with an eye to detail, is a mine of information which summarizes present opinions concerning the best methods to be employed in the treatment of lobar pneumonia. In addition it gives adequate brief summaries of existing knowledge concerning the etiology, epidemiology, diagnosis and past and present views on the prognosis of lobar pneumonia. It is the opinion of the reviewer that the authors have presented the respective merits of antipneumococcus serum or sulfapyridine in a critical and fair manner. While he might argue with the authors over the proposed criteria which are set up as indications for combined serum and chemotherapy, he believes that this is one of the books that should have a place on every physician's desk.
