This volume concerns infectious diseases, intoxication, occupational diseases and diseases caused by physical agents. The language is clear and concise. This is a large volume printed in rather small type. The field covered is extensive, and the description of the diseases is methodical and detailed. The first part of the book contains general concepts on infections, parasitosis, contagion, diagnosis, epidemiology, prophylaxis and treatment of infections. The author discusses diseases produced by bacteria, viruses, rickettsias, Bartonella, spirochetes, protozoa, helminths, arthropoda and mushrooms. The second part contains a discussion of intoxication, occupational diseases and diseases caused by physical agents. This is one of the most thorough treatments of this subject. It should be of great value to those Americans with a knowledge of Spanish, particularly to those interested in the so-called tropical diseases.
