Abstract

This book is written by a professional writer who has had experience in newspaper and magazine writing and has written successful books of biography and history. He has known where to find authentic source materials for this volume and understood how to present them. The result is one of the best books in the much overwritten area of health and hygiene for a number of years. The coverage is comprehensive, ranging from the controversial question of sunglasses to the latest attitudes on psychosomatic medicine. The material is intelligently selected, so that there is neither too much nor too little information. Presentation is clear and simple, in everyday language, but without sacrifice of correctness. There is no philosophy designed to scare the reader; in fact, there is little expression of opinion and no exhortation. The facts are presented clearly for those who want them, and the reader is left to accept,
