Abstract

CALIFORNIA

Hospital Facilities for Use in Disasters.  —Arrangements are being made by the state department of mental hygiene and the division of medical health services of the state office of civil defense for use of the mental hygiene institutional facilities in the event of a major disaster. Many California hospitals for the mentally ill and homes for the mentally deficient can render valuable service if needed. In addition to emergency beds, the department of mental hygiene is making available a source of fresh blood procurement through employees and patients. The division of medical and health services plans to store blood donor and recipient sets in mental hygiene institutions to be available for immediate use if necessary.
