The first edition of this comprehensive textbook appeared in 1934. From the first, this book was accepted and used with great satisfaction by physicians in general practice, surgeons who were primarily engaged in the treatment of injuries due to trauma, and teachers in the medical schools as a reference book.
The fifth edition was published in 1951. In the last five years, some changes in the principles of treating certain types of fractures and dislocations have been accepted. This new edition follows the same general format as that of preceding editions, but in it the authors present more than 100 new illustrations.
