This edition of this classic sustains the high level of merit of the first edition. It is a must for the library of every cardiologist and should be valuable to the medical student, internist, and up-to-date general practitioner. The addition of three chapters on graphic methods of examining the heart enhances the value of this book as a textbook. A major revision has also been made to include the recent advances in cardiac surgery. The sections on nonsurgical treatment have also been extensively revised. The chapters that have been enlarged include those on chronic cardiopulmonary disease, coronary atherosclerosis, and congenital heart disease. Although one need not agree with all of the author's views, the scholarliness and comprehensiveness of the book and the judicial handling of controversial matters should impress the most critical reader. This book is one of the best in its field.
