Abstract

AIR FORCE 

Personal.—  Col. John E. Pickering, chief, department of radiobiology, has been named director of medical research at the U. S. School of Aviation Medicine, San Antonio, Texas. Colonel Pickering, formerly director of the Health Physics Society of America, is the author of textbooks entitled "Student Handbook of Weather" and "Air Navigation," and of many scientific papers.

ARMY 

Personal.—  Col. Floyd L. Wergeland, executive director, Office for Dependents' Medical Care, was promoted to the rank of brigadier general on Oct. 8. Formerly, General Wergeland was chief of the personnel division in the surgeon general's office. Col. John L. Crawford, commanding officer, 9th Hospital Center, Landstuhl, Germany, was also recently promoted to the rank of brigadier general.

NAVY 

Surgeon General Receives Peru Award.—  Surgeon General Rear Adm. Bartholomew Hogan has been awarded the Peruvian Cross of Merit by the president of Peru and the Peruvian Navy. The decoration was presented
