C.Dear Mr. Chairman:I should like to take this opportunity on behalf of the American Medical Association respectfully to submit for your consideration our views on H. R. 7966, 86th Congress, a bill which we understand is now pending before your Committee.This bill would amend the definition of "medical services" in Section 601(6) of Title 38, United States Code to include the services of optometrists. This is general terminology and might be interpreted to include the diagnosis of eye diseases, the consideration of problems dealing with the prevention of blindness and the conservation or restoration of vision. Inasmuch as these activities constitute the practice of medicine, it is our considered opinion that they should be performed exclusively by
