Abstract

To the Editor:—  JAMA's new format seems to be more than cover deep. Lately, we've learned that M.D.'s are in danger of becoming extinct because medical students are untaught in the gentle arts of propagation. Next we hear of the new scientific discovery that the female breast has a function (JAMA180:826 [June 9] 1962). This revelation is almost enough to set one to regressing—after being taught in medical school that breasts were only there to help support the brassiere business and to keep the tassels in orbit at burlesque shows.You just don't find this kind of erudition outside of comic books very often. Particularly refreshing was the observation that fat women have a following in cold climates. (Were they decimated by the introduction of the hot water bottle?) Thin women are apparently more in demand in the tropics—if things get too hot you can always use
