Dr. Murphy Named University Chancellor.—  Dr. Franklin D. Murphy, presently chancellor of the University of Kansas School of Medicine, will become chancellor of the University of California at Los Angeles on July 1. Appointment of Dr. Murphy was approved March 16 by the University of California Board of Regents. He will replace Chancellor Vern O. Knudsen, who reaches the administrative retirement age of 67 this year. Dr. Murphy received his medical degree in 1941 from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1948 he became dean of the UK School of Medicine and in 1951 became chancellor. Dr. Murphy is chairman of the executive committee of the Commission on Higher Education in the American Republics, a group of presidents of American and Latin-American universities. He is also chairman of the U.S. Advisory Commission on Educational Exchange of the Department of State, which governs the Fulbright program. In 1949, the U. S.
