This small book is a critical evaluation of the methods of obstetric analgesia and anesthesia as currently practiced in Great Britain. It reviews the physiology of the mother as related to childbirth. There is an excellent discussion of the placenta and of placental transmission of respiratory gases, which are presented as a basis for the dissertation on analgesia in labor, general and regional anesthesia for delivery, and resuscitation of the newborn infant. Account has been taken throughout the book of the requirements of home delivery practice. This small book is well bound, and the type is easily legible. It is recommended for obstetricians and anesthesiologists.
