This book comprises 30 chapters by individual authors, each of whom has written about one phase of the treatment of urinary calculi. The editor contributed an excellent introductory chapter on the history of the treatment of urinary stones and chapters on the perplexing role of colloid science in their formation and on their quantitative analysis. The history of urinary stones is as old as medicine, and the author has condensed a wealth of material into a fascinating and lucid chapter filled with excellent illustrations. Throughout this volume, the illustrations are of good quality and well reproduced. The medical management of this disease is particularly well presented by several authors, and the chapter by Dr. Snapper is worthy of special commendation.

Although the title implies that treatment is the primary consideration, the text contains much material on etiology and theories of stone formation. Most of the authors concentrated on practical therapeutic
